Tefnut was the god of rain and moisture in ancient Egyptian mythology and one of the nine pillars of Heliopolis. Representing disorder, it is the force that causes food and corpses to decay. She coughed up and married her brother Shu, giving birth to the gods of the sky, Nut, and the earth, Gaibu.
Tefnut is sometimes considered the eye of the sun god, growing on La's forehead. Whenever the sun rises, her eyes will burst into flames, burning the enemies of the great god. In this regard, Tefnut is equivalent to Uto. Upes and Sekhmet are her two variants.
There is a story that says that Tefnut, as the Eye of the Sun, hid in Nubia (due to drought in Egypt), and Ra sent Toth and Shu to search for her. Tefnut turned her into a cat, attacking all men and male gods close to her. Finally, under disguise, Toth finally convinced her to return to Egypt.
Her marriage to Shu Shen signifies the recovery and prosperity of nature. Tefnut is mixed with Best, Hator, Sekhmet, and other lion goddesses.
Once, Tefnut had a dispute with his father, the sun god Ra, and in a fit of anger, he ran away from home and headed to the desert area of Bugham in the Nubian region east of the Nile River. In Bugham, Tefnut transformed into a lioness roaring and crashing around. Due to the departure of the God of Rain, the land of Egypt is in trouble. And the sun god La is old and misses her daughter all day long. So, the sun god sent his son Shu, the god of air, and Toth, the god of moon and wisdom, to retrieve his beloved daughter Tefnut. The two gods transformed into baboons, intending to lead the goddess back with songs and dances. After seeing Tefnut, Toth deceived her into drinking the wine. As her anger gradually dissipated, she told Ella God of her longing and advised him kindly. Finally, the goddess agreed to return to her father, Sun God La, who was overjoyed and betrothed Tefnut to her brother, Air God Shu. Egypt once again welcomed the day of rain, and ancient Egyptians dressed like baboons, singing and dancing.
In fact, the episode between Ra God and his beloved daughter is a mythological fantasy of ancient Egyptians about seasonal changes.
