Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, a Buddhist bodhisattva name, is a transliteration of the Sanskrit K ṣ itigarbha, transliterated as "Qichadi Lianpo". The Ten Wheel Classic of Ksitigarbha states that it is "as calm and unmoving as the earth, and as deep and secretive as a secret treasure", hence its name. There is also the title of 'Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva'.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is one of the four great bodhisattvas in Chinese Buddhism, and the temple where his teachings are said to be practiced is located on Mount Jiuhua in Anhui Province. According to the "Biography of Eminent Monks in the Song Dynasty" Volume 20 and other documents, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was born into the royal family of Silla State, with the surname Jin and the name Qiao Jue. After becoming a monk, he came to China during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty and lived on Mount Jiuhua for decades before passing away. His physical body was not damaged and he entered the pagoda with his whole body.

In Buddhist scriptures, it is said that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was instructed by Shakyamuni Buddha to vow to complete the six realms of sentient beings, save all suffering, and become a Buddha before Shakyamuni Buddha died and Maitreya was born. Due to Buddhist scriptures, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has saved his mother who suffered in hell several times in his past life, and has continuously vowed to save all sentient beings, especially those in hell, since the distant tribulation. Therefore, this Bodhisattva is considered to possess the virtues of "great filial piety" and "great vow", and is widely revered as the "Great vow Ksitigarbha King Bodhisattva".
In addition, according to the "Ksitigarbha Sutra" volume, the original fate of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is four: (1) He was the son of a great elder before the ancient tribulation. I made a vow to spare all sentient beings from the six sins and sufferings in the future, as I witnessed my master's swift and full manifestation of the Tathagata's benevolent and solemn nature. (2) In the past, it was unbelievable that a monk only abducted a Brahmin woman. In order to save my mother from evil desires, I set up offerings for cultivation and blessings. And vow to fulfill the future tribulation and to save all sentient beings from sin and suffering. (3) He was a king during the ancient tribulation. Seeing that the people in our country have caused many evil deeds, I swore to save all sentient beings from sin and suffering, and only then did I become a Buddha. (4) In the distant past, she was a woman named Guangmu. In order to save my deceased mother who suffered in hell, I swear to spare all sentient beings from sin and suffering. Only after they become Buddhas can they attain enlightenment.

Regarding the image of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the Mahavairocana Sutra and other texts depict the Bodhisattva form (i.e. at home), while the Mahaparinirvana Sutra and other texts depict the Bodhisattva form with a majestic crown and tassel, and the Mahaparinirvana Sutra and other texts depict the Samantabhadra form. However, it is generally believed that the image of a Bhikkhu, holding a precious pearl in his left hand and a tin cane in his right hand, sitting or standing on a lotus flower with a thousand leaves, is widely circulated.
