Philip is a Greek name and one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He should have had a Jewish name, but it is not mentioned in the Bible. This name is the same as Philip, who later preached the gospel to eunuchs in the wilderness, but in fact it was two people. It is clever to translate the Chinese Bible into different words to avoid confusion. Philip disappeared from his name after Pentecost, and according to legend, he became very enthusiastic after the ascension of the Lord to heaven and soon died.

Philip was a Bethsaida and lived in the same city as Andrew and Peter. One day, the Lord Jesus wanted to go to Galilee and met Philip on the way. He said to him, "Follow me.". With such a simple call, Philip followed the Lord and became a disciple of the Lord. In that unbelieving era, the Lord likened it to a numb society where "I play the flute to you, you do not dance, mourn to you, and you do not beat your breasts." Why did Philip receive the Lord's call so quickly. From his testimony to Nathanael afterwards, we can know that he was always attentive to examining the prophecies of prophets. He had a deep understanding of the truth, and as soon as he met the Lord Jesus, he recognized him as the Messiah. A short sentence from the Lord attracted him to become a disciple, and he immediately became passionate and went to find his friend Nathanael to meet the Lord.
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found the one written by Moses in the law and by the prophets, which is Jesus the Nazarene, son of Joseph.". Philip was not a disciple of John the Baptist and did not receive formal theological training; At that time, the Lord Jesus did not begin to perform miracles and did not prophesy anything to Philip; But a person who is familiar with the truth can immediately recognize it when standing in front of it. Philip spoke so clearly, just as the Lord had said to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus: so he began with Moses and the prophets, and explained to them all that was spoken of him in the scripture (Luke 24:27). Many people still believe that the Old Testament is nothing more than Jewish history and some myths and legends, and has little to do with modern people; This type of person can be said to lack a complete understanding of truth and a profound understanding. Just like Nathanael, he immediately replied, "What good can Nazareth do?"? Nale is a small town nearby, how could it establish a connection with the great prophets of ancient times? Philip argued and only said three words to him: "Take a look.".
This is another manifestation of Philip's profound understanding of truth. We don't need to debate empty words, we should circle outside the truth and hurt our emotions; If you come to understand the truth yourself and stand in front of it, you will be completely clear. Nathanael indeed saw it and believed, and he continued to be among Philip's fellow workers in the list of disciples. We should bring people back to the Lord in the same way. Bring them directly to the Lord, and the Lord's words will naturally move them and save them.

Philip certainly had knowledge of truth, but he needed practice in faith. Philip seems very timid. Once several Greeks asked him to take them to Jesus, but he dared not take them directly. Instead, he told Andrew, and Andrew accompanied him to tell Jesus (John 12:20-22). Of course, Jesus knew the weaknesses of each of his disciples, so before the miracle of making bread, he deliberately picked out Philip and said to him, "Where do we buy bread for these people to eat?". The Bible specifically states that he said this to test Philip, for he himself knew how to do it. Unfortunately, Philip did not pass the exam. He replied, "Even a cake of twenty taels of silver is not enough for each of them to eat a little.".
It can be seen that having knowledge of truth is not enough for a person, and it is necessary to add practical confidence and practice in life. We often make this mistake, knowing that the Bible says this, but when we encounter difficulties in life, we forget the promises in the Bible and only use our own minds to plan. Philip should have answered the Lord: Lord! You can turn water into wine, and you can definitely turn stones into cakes. If you have any instructions, please feel free to say so! We will definitely follow suit. This is a drill derived from experience. He can also say with pure faith: Lord! As long as you say one word, we will all be full. You are the son of the living God, and there is nothing difficult for you to accomplish. If he could apply the historical facts from Moses and the prophets, he should say: Lord! Do you think it's good to ask God to come down from heaven. It's better to order the crow to pick up the cake.
Unfortunately, as soon as Philip heard about buying cakes for so many people to eat, he started calculating for himself. How much does a cake cost. How many cakes can I buy for one or two silver coins. Calculate this amount, it's really huge. A cake of twenty taels of silver is not enough for one person to take a bite. I forgot to look up at the master when I lowered my head to do calculations, and even misheard the question. The main question is not about money, but about where to buy. It's a matter of food source, not purchasing power. People with weak faith are often pitiful. It's difficult to look at people, environment, and oneself. If we look up at the Lord and pray to him, there will be no more difficulties. God's grace will be fully bestowed upon us, so that we may not fully enjoy it.

Philip initially knew that the Lord Jesus was the Messiah, but unfortunately, he had been walking with the Lord for three years and did not seem to have made much progress, so he even made a foolish request at the Last Supper. At that time, the Lord said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father without me.". And it is also very clear that if you know me, you also know my Father. From now on, you know him and have seen him. Speaking so clearly, Philip foolishly begged: May the Lord show us the Father, and we shall be content. The Lord cannot help but rebuke him: Philip, have I been with you for so long, yet do you not know me. If a person sees me, they see the Father. How do you say that you will show the Father to us.
I believe Philip was satisfied when he first met the Messiah and did not pursue further to get to know him better. Spiritual things such as sailing against the current, if you don't advance, you will retreat. Being used to staying in the same position, even the ones I knew in the beginning became confused. Always at the beginning of reason, always be a suckling baby, why not let the Lord sigh. His prayers have become foolish, just like those Greeks who only seek miracles without salvation. His purpose is only to seek his own satisfaction, not to achieve God's will. He is truly a weak believer, seeking blessings, longevity, peace, and learning for himself, and never seeking to live a life that conforms to God's will and please the Lord.
