Goddess Ganga (Sanskrit: गगगा, English: Goddess Ganga Ganga) is a Hindu goddess. The personification of the Holy River Ganges. According to mythology, the Ganges goddess is the daughter of the Snow Mountain God (personified in the Himalayas) and the sister of the Snow Mountain Goddess.
The image of the Ganges goddess is usually a beautiful woman with four arms, holding a clean bottle in both hands and a lotus in both hands. Her mount is the sea beast Mogara (this combination dates back to the Gupta dynasty).
The myths related to the Ganges goddess mainly include the story of the Milky Way descending to earth and the story of Vishma's birth.
The King of the Sun Dynasty, Baghirata, burned his great grandfather's 60000 brothers (all of whom were burned to death by the Kabila immortals) with divine fire
Our soul has been purified and we are determined to engage in arduous cultivation. His asceticism touched the Milky Way Goddess in the sky, who applied the water of the Milky Way to purify these souls for him. However, due to the immense power of the river water falling from the sky, unless captured by the Great God Shiva, the world must be destroyed. Bujiruda then embarked on even more arduous cultivation, ultimately moving Shiva as well. In this way, the Milky Way first poured down on the head of Shiva, divided into several less powerful streams by the hair of the great god, and then fell to the Himalayas, flowing through the ashes of the ancestors of Vajratha, allowing their souls to ascend to heaven. The Milky Way that falls into the mortal world flows from the Himalayas into India, becoming the Ganges River on earth.
The father of King Fushen of the Moon Dynasty (the common ancestor of the opposing Gulu and Pandu tribes in the epic Mahabharata), Borodipo, once told him that a wife had been appointed for him, but after marriage, he must not inquire about his wife's origin or interfere with her behavior. Later, one day while walking by the Ganges River, the King of Blessings saw a beautiful girl who offered him exactly the same conditions as before. Therefore, the King of Blessings happily married her. This girl is the goddess of the Ganges. The reason why the goddess married the Blessed Body King is as follows: the eight Bosu gods in the sky offended the extremely abundant immortal (because they stole the Ruyi divine cow), and were cursed by the immortal and demoted to the mortal world. They had no choice but to plead with the extremely abundant immortal, and in the end, the immortal promised that seven of them could immediately return to the heavenly realm after birth. Only the mastermind of stealing cattle, the God of Light, Polobasa, had to stay in the human world for a lifetime. The Goddess Su of the Goddess of the Ganges found her again and requested that she also descend to earth to become their mother in the mortal world. The kind-hearted goddess agreed, so she transformed into a mortal and married the Blessed King. After the marriage of the Ganges Goddess and the Blessed Body King, eight Bosu deities were born one after another, and the goddess threw her child into the Ganges and drowned him, thus the Bosu deity ascended to heaven. Although the Blessed King could not understand, he had to watch his sons drown one by one due to his vows. But when the 8th celestial god (i.e. God of Light) was born, the Blessed Body King could no longer tolerate such atrocities and prevented the goddess, ultimately violating that oath. After the Ganges goddess told him all the truth, she returned to the heavens, and the God of Light also responded to the curse and stayed on earth (but was taken away from his father for 13 years). The incarnation of God of Light in the human world is Vishma, who is the most important hero of the unbeatable side of Mahabharata (the Gulu tribe).
In the Rigveda, the name of the Ganges is mentioned only twice. However, during the historical period, the Ganges goddess gradually became an extremely important goddess. Legend has it that the Ganges River flows into the Three Realms from outside the universe when the outer shell of the universe is pierced by the foot of the dwarf incarnation of Vishnu God. According to the scriptures, the Ganges River is the daughter of Parwataruja, the king of snow mountains, so she is the sisters of Parvati, the wife of Shiva God.
The Ganges River's arrival on Earth is a very famous myth in India. The king of Ayutia, Sagar, was a great ruler without any descendants. Therefore, he practiced hard for a long time and moved the God of Shiva, receiving the blessing of having 60000 sons. When these 60000 sons grew up, Sagar decided to hold a horse sacrifice, which could give people an invincible position like the Heavenly Emperor. The Heavenly Emperor stole the horse used for the horse sacrifice because he was afraid that the Great Prince would succeed in holding the sacrifice and plan to seize his throne. Indra brought the horse to the lower world, placed it next to the great sage Kapila (the founder of the number theory school) who was meditating, and then left.
Prince 60000 searched the entire earth but couldn't find a horse, so he dug a hole and came to the underground world. They found the horse next to the saint Capilla. So they determined that the sage was the one who stole the horse, and they began to beat the sage who was in meditation. This atrocity angered the sage, who burned 60000 princes to ashes with the fire of divine power.
The wandering sage Narunada told Prince Sagar about the burning of the prince. The Great Prince prayed to the sage Kapila to forgive his son, so the sage suggested that he bring the Ganges River to Earth. If his son is washed away by the Ganges River, he can be resurrected and cleansed of all sins. So the Grand Prince passed on the throne to the only surviving son and went to the forest to practice hard. However, because he died soon, he did not successfully invite the Ganges River to descend. His son passed on his throne to the next generation, Prince Dalip. Although Prince Dalip has two wives, he has no son. He prayed for the blessings of God Shiva and obtained a son named Bajairuat. The appearance of Bageiruat was very ugly, but when he reached adulthood, he met a saint who blessed him and became very handsome. He conducted various asceticisms to the gods and prayed devoutly for an extremely long time. Finally, both Shiva and the Ganges goddess were moved by him and decided to come to the world. But Baguijouat was afraid that the impact of the Ganges would damage the Earth.
The great God Shiva decided to use his head to catch the Ganges River in order to alleviate its impact on Earth. The Ganges River has descended in three parts. She fell into the hair bun of the goddess Shiva sitting in the Himalayas. Then Shiva allowed a portion of it to flow into the human world. Baguiraat blew the conch given to him by the great god Vishnu, guiding the Ganges River towards the sea and then from the sea to the underground world. Sixty thousand princes were resurrected due to the washing of the Ganges River.
When the Ganges River flows into the world and underground, all beings in the heavenly realm also pray to Brahma to bring the Ganges River to heaven, and they also need the Ganges River water to purify their sins. For this reason, Brahma promised them to leave a part of the Ganges River in the heavens as well. Therefore, the Ganges River is called Mandalay in the sky, Ganges in the human world, and Bajairu Ati in the underground.
