Andrew also translated "Andriy". One of the twelve disciples of Jesus. The Greek Church called Andre "the first apostle to be called" and respected him as a guardian saint. He was also a guardian saint in Scotland. [1] Before becoming a disciple, Andrew lived in Bethsaida in Galilee, where he took fishing as his business. When Andrew met Christ, he immediately followed the Lord. He believed that the Lord Jesus was the Messiah, the Redeemer, the Lamb of sins, and the King to come. He not only walked with the Lord, but also lived with him. He looked at the Lord and envied a deeper association with him.
Andrew, an adult of Bethsai in Galilee, the brother of Simon Peter, and a fisherman by the sea of Galilee, are honest and honest. He was originally a disciple of John the Baptist. After hearing John the Baptist called Jesus the Messiah, he led his brother Simon Peter to convert to Jesus and become a faithful disciple of Jesus. There are few records of him in the Bible. [2] It is said that after Jesus ascended, he once preached in Asia Minor, the Black Sea, and the Balyu Peninsula, and was crucified on the cross in about 60 A.D. in Patrai, Greece. [3]
In the apocryphal sutra "The Life of Andrew", it is described that Andrew was tied to an X-shaped cross, and the punishment was very painful. The dog was asked to bite him at night, but he hung on the cross for four days without the dog biting him. Moreover, he kept preaching all day and all night. Finally, the masses couldn't bear to hold a meeting to ask the government to let Andrew go. When the criminal arrived in front of Andrew, Andrew said, "Lord, don't let them let me go! Please take my soul away! They don't know your will!" Then he died.
Andrew was a loyal and honest man. At first, he was a disciple of John the Baptist. Hearing John the Baptist said that Jesus was the Messiah, he followed Jesus with his brother Simon Peter. There are few accounts of Andrew in the Bible. [4] Andrew is the most ordinary person among the twelve disciples, unlike Peter's charisma, John's close love, or even James's first martyrdom for the Lord, but Andrew has a great value in his life, that is, he brought people to Jesus many times.
There are few references to Andrew in the Bible, but in the Bible, there are three references to what Andrew did. Each time, it is mentioned that Andrew brought people to Jesus. He is a person who makes people happy. Andrew's characteristic seems to be the bridge between people and the Lord. Through him, people can know the Lord.
First time: lead Peter to Jesus
John 1:40-42: "One of the two men who heard John's words and followed Jesus is Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his brother Simon, and said to him that we had met the Messiah, so he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said," You are Simon, John's son, and you will be called Cephas. " This is the first time in the Bible that Andrew brought his brother to Jesus.
Andrew was originally a disciple of John the Baptist. John the Baptist testified to Jesus, so his two disciples followed Jesus. But in the Bible, only Andrew's name is mentioned, and no other disciple is recorded. Andrew is remembered by God in the Bible. Andrew first found his brother Simon and led him to Jesus, so he was recorded in the Bible. This is remembered by the Lord. When Andrew was blessed, he did not let the blessing stay on his own. He found his brother with a positive attitude and brought him to Jesus so that others could be blessed. If we are blessed with grace and joy, we should take the initiative to bring people to Jesus. Instead of passively and passively waiting for others to seek help.
The second time: lead the "child offering five cakes and two fish" to Jesus
The second incident of Andrew was recorded in the Gospel of John. He led the "child who offered five cakes and two fish" to Jesus. The miracles of Jesus, "five cakes and two fish", are recorded in the four Gospels. John 6:4-10: "At that time, the Passover of the Jews was near. Jesus looked up and saw many people coming. He said to Philip," Where do we buy bread for these people to eat? "He said this to test Philip. He himself knew how to do it. Philip answered," Twenty taels of silver is not enough for each of them to eat a little bread. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Jesus, "Here is a child with Five barley cakes and two fish. But what is it to give to these many people. Jesus said to them, "Tell the people to sit down.". For there was so much grass in that place that the people sat down, about five thousand. "
The disciples encountered a situation where many people had nothing to eat. Jesus threw this problem to Philip and asked him to find a way to solve it. This is testing Philip. Faced with the question, Philip replied that even if there were twenty taels of silver in bread, it would not be enough for each of them to eat a little. Philip saw that he could not. Philip failed in this test, but Andrew passed. Andrew said to Jesus, "There was a boy with five barley cakes and two fish. But what is it to give them to many people?" Although it is impossible to feed people by giving them five cakes and two fish, we cannot solve this problem, but if we bring this problem to God, God can solve it. Today, the Lord places some people with difficulties and problems around us. This is the experiment he has given us. Although we have no way to help these people, the Lord has a way to bring them to Jesus. We can learn from Andrew's faith. Five cakes and two fish can't feed five thousand people, but when we bring them to the Lord, we can find a way.
Third time: lead the "Greeks" to Jesus
The third time Andrew was mentioned, he led the "Greeks" to Jesus. It is recorded in John 12:20 to 22: "At that time, among those who came up for the festival service, there were some Greeks. They came to Philip of Bethsaida, Galilee, and begged him to say, Sir, we would like to see Jesus. Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip went to tell Jesus." Some unbelieving Gentiles ran to find Philip, saying that they wanted to see Jesus. Philip did not take them to Jesus, but took them to Andrew. Andrew was very clear, what's the use of looking for me? He wanted to bring people to Jesus. May the Lord be kind to our church. There are also more than 1000 Andrew in the church. When others have difficulties, when these difficulties are beyond my ability to solve, I know to bring these difficulties to Jesus.
These deeds concerning Andrew were hidden and not recorded until all the other apostles died, leaving the old John. Usually, God doesn't like his workers to be too noticed in this life. We'd better wait for eternity to accept the evaluation we deserve.
Andrew's deeds and martyrdom are recorded in the works of the ancient godfather Yeroumi, Jupuliang and others. Andrew once went to Xiguti, Greece and other places to preach the gospel, and was honored by the Russians as their apostle. Finally, he arrived in the Greek city of Patley. Because of his powerful preaching, many people in the city abandoned their idols and false gods and turned to Christ. At that time, when Edza's governor Achis learned about this, he went to the city of Patley in person, and with the consent of the Roman Senate, he wanted to put all the people in the city who believed in Christ in prison or put them to death and offer sacrifices to the Roman gods. In order to save the brothers and sisters in the city, Andrew took the initiative to go to the trouble. In the presence of governor Achis, he still boldly preached the gospel, exhorted the Roman kings to stay away from idols and worship the true God. Aces was very angry and threatened to be crucified. Andrew said contemptuously, "If people are afraid of being crucified, they will not preach the glory and dignity of the cross." When he walked to the cross, he was calm and his face was shining, which could not hide his inner joy. He said passionately, "Oh, cross, I embrace you with all my heart and long for you. The Lord Jesus was hanging on you, and I am a disciple of the Lord, so I love you forever." [5] Andrew was hanged on the cross for three days and nights. When he was dying, he still tried to preach the love of Jesus Christ to people around him.
Andrew was the brother of Peter, the first disciple of Jesus, and a fisherman on the Lake of Galilee. He followed the Lord Jesus with his brother. After the death of Jesus, the church was persecuted in Jerusalem. At that time, Paul led his men and horses to arrest the disciples of Jesus everywhere. After Paul became a believer, Christians were still persecuted. These disciples of Jesus had to disperse. They fled Israel and went to neighboring countries to continue their gospel dissemination. Andrew also fled. He went to several countries along the Mediterranean coast by boat, Preach the gospel among the jews. Some churches traditionally believed that Andrea was an apostle of Xiguti, so the Russian church regarded Andrea as a patron saint.
Later, Andrew went to Patra in Achaia Province, a province of the Roman Empire, where he was arrested in the south of what is now Macedonia. Andrew was also nailed to the cross, because Andrew was fearless, and before he went to the cross, he delivered a brilliant speech to the crowd on the execution ground, and then died in awe. Andrew's deathbed preaching made many people believe that Jesus is the Lord.
However, Andrew's deathbed sermon also irritated the executioners. They made Andrew's cross into an X shape, so Andrew's whole body was nailed to the cross obliquely, and the pain was also unspeakable. Since then, this X-shaped cross has been called the "Saint Andrew's Cross". The Greek Church called Andriy "the first apostle to be called" and honored him as a guardian saint. He was also a guardian saint in Scotland. The church has set November 30 every year as its ceremonial day。
