St. Peter (also known as St. Peter, St. Pierre) (AD 1-ad 65) Greek: Πέτρος, Petros or ; Hebrew: שמעון, Shim ʻō n; "hearing"; Latin: Petre. The name means rock. Bethsaida, who was born in Galilee, was Jesus' eldest disciple and Jesus' favorite disciple. He was an early Christian leader. In AD 65, he was persecuted by the Roman Emperor Nero and was crucified upside down and martyred.
Peter, the head of the twelve apostles of Jesus, originally lived by fishing. Later, he followed Jesus. After Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost, he began to spread the gospel. Later, he was persecuted by the Roman Emperor Nero and died of martyrdom in Rome. Before his death, Peter asked to be crucified upside down.
When Jesus began to preach, Andrea was introduced by John: "look at the lamb of the Lord." He went to worship Jesus as a teacher. When he came home, he met his brother Peter and said, "we have found the Messiah, the Savior Jesus Christ." Peter was introduced by his brother to Jesus. Jesus saw him and said, "you are Simon. Your father's name is Jonah. In the future, you will call him zephaz."
Every time God gave someone a major task, he would call him by a proper name. Peter was inspired and called by Jesus for the first time. His will was not determined, and he said goodbye to Jesus temporarily.
When Jesus preached, he did good deeds everywhere and showed many miracles. The voice of Jesus was gradually spread everywhere, and the masses followed him in large numbers to listen to his gospel. One day, Jesus came to the shore of the lake Caesarea in Japan, and saw two boats tied by the lake. One of the boats was Peter's. Jesus got on the boat and taught the masses because of the crowded audience. After the end, he asked Peter to row to the center of the lake to cast a net and catch fish, Peter said, "teacher, we have been working hard all night, and we can't catch a fish. But I'll go under the net as you tell me." Sure enough, a large number of fish were caught, and the fishing net was almost broken. So I had to ask my companions from other ships to help me. Two ships were full and almost sank. Peter was amazed. He fell down before Jesus and said, "Lord, please leave me. I am a sinner." Then Jesus said to him, "do not be afraid. Come and follow me. From now on, I will make you a fisherman." Jesus loved Peter very much. Peter was grateful for the Lord's grace in his heart. He deeply understood and remembered what Jesus said and did.
Peter was a warm and straightforward man. He once said to Jesus, "look, we have left everything to follow you." Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, who gave up his wife, brother, sister, parents, children and land for me and the gospel? Before his life, he did not get a hundred times more in this life, that is, houses, brothers, sisters, parents, children and land. He will be persecuted and will have eternal life in the next life."
When Jesus came to the area of Caesarea in Philip, he asked his disciples, "what do people think of me?" They answered, "people have different opinions about you. Some say you are John the Baptist, some say you are Elijah, and some say you are Jeremiah or another prophet." Jesus then asked his disciples, "who do you think I am?" Peter immediately replied, "you are the Christ, the son of the living God." Jesus was very satisfied with Peter's answer, Then he said to him, "Simon (Peter), you are blessed, because this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my father in heaven! I tell you that you are Peter. On this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell cannot defeat him. I will give you the key to the kingdom of heaven: everything you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; everything you release on earth will be released in heaven."
From then on, Jesus began to prophesy his suffering and resurrection, saying that he should go to Jerusalem. They will be persecuted by elders, chief priests and teachers, martyred and resurrected on the third day. Peter took Jesus and blamed him. "Lord," he said, "you must not do this! Such things must not happen to you." Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Satan, stand back. You are a stumbling block to me, because you do not care about the meaning of God, but about the meaning of people." The reason why Peter was criticized this time was also out of his loyalty and love for the Lord Jesus. However, his views were still purely based on natural feelings and had not been raised to a transcendental realm. From the tone Jesus scolded Peter, we can see how urgent the Lord Jesus was to carry out the will of the Lord and be willing to sacrifice to save people. At the same time, Jesus set high standards for the apostles.
When Jesus taught in the gopheron synagogue, he said, "I truly tell you that if you do not eat the body of the son of man and drink his blood, your soul will have no life. Whoever eats my body and drinks my blood will have eternal life, and I will resurrect him at the last day..." Many of the disciples heard these words of Jesus and said, "these words are hard to accept. Who will believe them?" Many disciples became suspicious and quietly walked away. Jesus knew that his disciples were not satisfied with these words. He said to them, "do you think you can't accept my words? Should you believe them, but you won't believe them?..." many people left Jesus from then on and stopped following him. Then Jesus said to the twelve disciples, "will you also leave me?" Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, if we leave you, who will we go to? Only you have eternal life. We trust you and know that you are the holy one of God."
Jesus is willing to show his glory to his disciples in order to strengthen their faith and dispel their doubts about whether Jesus is Christ. Jesus took Peter, James and John, James' brother, up a high mountain; Jesus changed his original appearance in front of them. His face was as bright as the sun. His clothes were white as light, dazzling and beautiful. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared before them and talked with Jesus. Peter was so surprised and happy that he could not help asking Jesus, "Lord, we'd better stay here. If you want, I'm going to build three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.". As Peter's words fell to the ground, a bright cloud hid them; A voice from the cloud said, "this is our beloved son, and I am pleased with him. Listen to him." The disciples fell to the ground in fear. Jesus approached them, comforted them and said, "get up! Don't be afraid."
Once, Jesus went to Simon Peter and Andre's house with James and John, and Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed. They immediately introduced her condition to Jesus. Jesus went to her bed, took her hand, and pulled her up. Her illness healed immediately. He got up to cook for Jesus and Peter and bring tea, as if she had never been sick.
One day, Jesus urged his disciples to get on the boat and go to the other side of the Caledonian sea. After saying goodbye to them, he went up to the mountain to pray alone. In the evening, the boat had reached the middle of the sea, and it was windward and rough. At four o'clock in the evening, Jesus went to the sea to rescue them. When his disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were shocked and said, "it's a monster!" They were frightened and cried out. Jesus immediately said to them, "don't be afraid. It's me!" Peter said quickly and straightly, "Lord, it's your word. Please let me walk to you on the water!" Jesus said to him, "come!" Then Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water until he came to Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind blowing, he was afraid and wanted to sink. He cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately stretched out his hand to catch him and said, "why do you doubt, you little believer?" When they got into the boat, the wind and the sea were calm. The whole boat worshipped Jesus and said, "you are indeed the son of the Lord!"
How could Peter be so bold as to ask Jesus to let him walk on the water? It seems a bit rash, but in fact it is not, because not long ago, Peter saw with his own eyes that Jesus had the miraculous ability of blowing wind and causing rain and commanding nature. The miraculous process is as follows: after Jesus cured Peter's mother-in-law, he and his disciples went on a boat to cross the sea. Suddenly, a storm arose, and the big waves overturned. Seeing that a leaf of the boat would be capsized, Jesus slept loudly in the bow of the boat. The disciples woke up and cried for help, saying: "Lord, help! We are about to drown!" Jesus said to them, "little believers, why are you so timid?" Jesus got up and ordered calm. Sure enough, the storm stopped, and the sea was like a mirror, and no wave could rise. The disciples were amazed and said, "who is he? The wind and the sea obey his command!" Peter had this experience, and his confidence increased. When encountering the storm, he relied on Jesus. So he asked Jesus to let him walk on the water to meet Jesus. This is not abrupt and strange.
At the last supper, Jesus poured water to wash the disciples' feet, and tied a towel around his waist to wipe their feet. When he came to Peter, Peter said to Jesus in fear, "Lord, will you wash my feet?" Jesus answered, "you do not understand what I am doing now, but you will understand it later." Peter didn't understand this. He felt puzzled. "No, Lord, how can you wash my feet?" Jesus insisted, "if I don't wash your feet, you and I have nothing to do." When Peter heard this, he said to the Lord Jesus, "Lord, not only my feet, but also my head and hands." Jesus said, "a person who has taken a bath can be cleansed by washing his feet..."
According to the Bible, Peter's personality is prominent. The characteristics of his personality are also very clear. Peter showed his loyalty and honesty to Jesus everywhere. However, before the advent of the Holy Spirit, Peter's views and attitudes towards things were purely based on his personal nature. His words and actions were often inconsistent, inconsistent, and seemed childish and ridiculous. At the same time, we can also see from his unique temperament that Peter transferred his entire thoughts and feelings to the will of the Lord Jesus, I offer it to the Lord Jesus without reservation.
Before his crucifixion, Jesus predicted how he would be betrayed by traitors and suffer until he died. Peter made an impassioned and generous vow that he would rather die than betray himself and become a traitor. He said to Jesus, "Lord, even if I die with you, I will not betray." Jesus said, "are you ready to sacrifice for me? I really tell you that before the rooster crows, you will turn your back on me three times!" Peter faced a severe test. From his overconfident tone, it is obvious that if he does not rely on God at this crucial moment, he will not stand the test because of his temporary blood and willfulness.
That night, Peter prayed with Jesus in the olive garden; I was so sleepy that I couldn't insist on praying with Jesus. In the middle of the night, the wicked came to arrest Jesus, and Jesus calmly went forward. The disciples were panicked and fled in all directions, so that Jesus was arrested and imprisoned by the wicked. Peter followed Jesus into the Yamen and the high priest's house from afar with great anxiety. Because of the cold in the night, he sat in the courtyard with the soldiers to warm himself. A servant girl came to him and said, "you are an associate of Jesus of Galilee." Peter denied it publicly and said, "I don't know when you said that!" When Peter went out to the entrance hall, another maid saw him and said to those present, "this man is also with Jesus of Nazareth." Peter swore, "I don't know that man?" Soon after, the people standing there all came up to him and said, "you must be his accomplice. I can tell from your tone of voice." Peter swore again, "I don't know that man." Immediately the rooster crowed, and Peter woke up suddenly. He remembered Jesus' words: "before the rooster crows, you want me to disown me three times." He went out and wept sadly.
On the morning of Jesus' resurrection, it was dawn. Madarina went to the tomb to visit him. When she saw that the big stone at the door of the tomb had been removed, she ran back and told Peter and John that the two disciples ran to the tomb together. John arrived first. After Peter arrived, she went into the tomb and saw that the burial cloth was thrown on the ground, but the handkerchief for wrapping her head was placed in another place. Peter and John were convinced of Jesus' resurrection. Jesus appeared to the disciples twice in the dining room, Peter was present.
Jesus once again appeared to his disciples on the sea of Tiberias: the situation was like this: that day, Peter and Timothy, who was called Didymus, and Nathanael, John and James of Cana in Galilee went fishing. They got on the boat and fished all night, but they could not catch a fish! In the morning, Jesus stood on the bank and said to them, "friends, have you caught any fish?" They replied, "no!" Jesus said, "cast a net on the right side of the boat and you will catch it." And they cast their nets according to Jesus' word, and caught a net full of fish, and they could not even pull the net. The disciples began to fail to recognize Jesus' guidance. John first said to Peter, "it's the Lord!" When Peter heard this, he immediately put on his clothes, girded his waist, and jumped into the sea. The other disciples were close to the shore, about thirty feet away. They pulled the net full of fish to the shore. When they got on the shore, they saw that the charcoal fire was burning and the fish and bread were baking. Jesus asked them to bring the fresh fish they had caught. Peter got on the boat again and pulled the net full of fish, a total of 153 big fish. So many fish didn't break the net. Jesus said to them, "please come and have breakfast." No one dares to ask who he is. Everyone knows that he is the Lord! Jesus took bread and fish to satisfy their hunger.
Peter was martyred
Peter was martyred
After breakfast, Jesus said to Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these people?" Answer: "Lord, yes, you know I love you!" Jesus said to him, "feed my lamb!" The second time he said to him, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?" Peter answered, "yes, Lord, you know that I love you very much." Jesus said to him, "you shepherd my sheep!" Jesus said to him again the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?" Peter was upset because Jesus asked him again and again. He replied, "Lord, you know everything. You know I love you!" Jesus said to him, "feed my sheep!"
Then Jesus said to Peter, "I do tell you that when you were young, you girded yourself up and went wherever you wanted. But when you were old, you should stretch out your hands, and others would gird you up and send you to the place you didn't want to go." Jesus told Peter that he would be martyred in the name of Jesus Christ.
Peter -- crucified upside down
On the way from apian to Rome, there is a church called "Lord, where are you going?" It commemorates Ambassador Peter Tupelo's death for Christ. At that time, Emperor Nero launched the first great persecution of the Roman Empire. At first, many Christians around Peter advised him to flee quickly. At first, he was unwilling to leave these sheep, but later he had no choice but to flee alone. When he reached that road, he suddenly saw a man coming not far away. He recognized the Lord Jesus Christ and asked, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus said to him, "Peter, you have forsaken my sheep. Now I will go to Rome and crucify again!" Peter patted his chest and wept. He immediately returned to Rome. Soon after, he was arrested and asked to be crucified upside down, because he thought he was not worthy of the same death method as the Lord.
