Sobek (English: Sobek, Greek: Crocoldilopolis) was a crocodile god in ancient Egyptian mythology, revered in the Fayyum region. By the Middle Kingdom of Egypt, his faith was popularized and he became the local god. Appearing in the form of a crocodile head. It is said that Sobek was the son of Seth and Neuter (also known as the son of the guardian goddess of the Nile Delta), who protected the young Horus and assisted Isis and Nefertis in their struggle against Seth.

According to ancient Egyptian mythology and legend, the crocodile god Sobek possesses four times the divine power because he possesses four divine elements: fire drawn by the sun god, Shu Qi by the air god, earth god Gaibu's soil, and water by the underworld god Osiris. According to the Book of the Dead, he guarded the young Horus and helped the grown prince successfully restore himself. He helped Isis and Nefertis fight against Seth, making Horus the king of Upper and Lower Egypt again.

Sobek only has a few small temples, and usually only sailors who hope to avoid shipwrecks during navigation come to worship. However, throughout Egypt, he is also worshipped in private shrines.
In the fifth century BC, the ancient Greek historian Herodotus described the worship of Sobek: "In certain parts of Egypt, crocodiles were a divine beast. The center of crocodile worship was Fayum. In these places, they raised a crocodile in a pond until it was tamed. Then they dressed it with jewelry. The crocodile ate exceptionally well and was taken care of according to divine law. After the crocodile died, it was mummified and buried in a divine coffin.
