Prometheus (Ancient Greek: Προμηθεύς、 English: Prometheus, whose name means "foresight", is one of the Titans' gods in the ancient Greek mythology. He was born to Iapetus, the son of Gaia and Uranus, and Clemene, and was the brother of Epimetheus.
Prometheus and Athena, the goddess of wisdom, jointly created human beings. Prometheus was responsible for sculpting human shapes with clay, while Athena poured soul into clay figurines and taught human beings a lot of knowledge. Prometheus also rebelled against Zeus and brought the seed of fire to the world.
Prometheus came from the Titan tribe. [1] In the "journey of Odysseus" of the myth of Prometheus, which has lasted for nearly 3000 years, the image of Prometheus has gone through a long and complicated evolution process.
In 1907, Lu Xun first introduced the modern image of Prometheus portrayed by Shelley in his "Moro Poetic Theory", and in 1930, he directly compared Prometheus to the "revolutionary" in his "Translation of the Fire" theory.
In 1924, Zheng Zhenduo first introduced the Prometheus archetype created by Aeschylus in the then publication Novel Monthly.
Legend allusion
In the Titan War led by Zeus and Cronus, Prometheus stood on the side of the new Olympian god, so he was appreciated by Zeus and stayed on Mount Olympus. [1] Prometheus created humans from clay according to his own body.
Prometheus attended the meeting as the defender of humanity. At the meeting, he tried to persuade the gods not to put forward harsh sacrificial conditions for agreeing to protect humanity. He brought this spark to the ground and brought it to humanity, and immediately the first pillar of fire from the jungle rose to the sky. So Zeus was furious and ordered the Fire God to give Prometheus the strictest punishment.
The Fire God did not disobey Zeus' orders, and with two servants, he took Prometheus to the Caucasus Mountains. He bound him to a steep cliff with an ever earning iron chain, so that he could never fall asleep, his tired knees could not bend, and a diamond nail was nailed to his undulating chest.
Zeus also sent a vulture to peck at Prometheus' liver every day (in ancient Greece, the liver was believed to be the source of human emotions). During the day, the liver was eaten up, but at night it would regrow. Until Heracles happened to pass by on the way to find the golden apple, and saw that he shot the eagle with an arrow, and smashed the chain with a stone to rescue him.
