NEOM (Saudi New Future City) is a new industrial and commercial city located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia. [3]
The project was created by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who hoped to create an iconic and timeless architectural miracle like the Egyptian pyramids. [2] The New Future City is located in Tabuk Province, northwest Saudi Arabia, with a planned area of 26500 square kilometers. It is a future city model created by Saudi Arabia under the framework of the "2030 Vision". [5]
According to the plan, the city will be initially built in 2040 and will have 9 million residents by 2045. After completion, the New Future City will become an artificial intelligence city。

Expected to cover an area of 26500 square kilometers, adjacent to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, and close to the maritime trade route via the Suez Canal. The new city will focus on nine major industries including energy and water, biotechnology, food, advanced manufacturing, and entertainment, and will rely entirely on new energy sources for power supply in the future.
In 2022, according to foreign media reports, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia announced plans to spend approximately one trillion US dollars to build a 120 kilometer long "zero carbon linear city" NEOM in Saudi Arabia. It is reported that NEOM is expected to accommodate 5 million people, including multi story vertical buildings equipped with high-speed trains, vertical agriculture, sports fields, and yacht docks running under the buildings, which can be used for people's work, life, and leisure. Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated that this project will bring about a revolutionary change in the way people live in the future, where they will use "100% renewable energy" in a "zero carbon environment without roads or cars". Prince Mohammed regards this zero carbon new city as an international hub. The prince hopes that the project will be completed before 2030, but engineers are concerned that due to its large scale, it may take 50 years to complete.

On October 24, 2017, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced a $500 billion (approximately 3.3 trillion yuan) urban construction plan.
At 10:00 am local time on April 30, 2024, Chinese and Saudi builders jointly launched the tail explosion detonator for the 4th branch of the Saudi New Future City (NEOM) tunnel and successfully completed the final blasting task, marking the successful completion of the Saudi New Future City tunnel branch project undertaken by China Railway Construction International Group (CRCI).
