Character's Life
On August 25, 1707, Louis was born in Madrid and baptized under the name of Louis Felipe. His name derives from great-grandfather Louis XIV, King of France.
Louis became the legal heir to the throne as the eldest son of Felipe V, but it was not until April 1709 that he was traditionally granted the title of Prince of Asturias.
At the age of 7, his mother passed away, leaving him and his two younger brothers, Prince Fernando and Prince Felipe Pedro Gabriel. On December 24, 1714, Felipe V married Elizabeth Farnese, the young heiress of the Duchy of Parma, as the new queen.
Because it was not only the heirs of the vast Spanish Empire, but also the heirs of the new Spanish Bourbon dynasty, the royal family decided to marry Louis as soon as possible. On January 20, 1722, Louis met with Louise Elizabeth de Orleans, the daughter of the Regent of France, Duke Philip II of Orleans, in Lyma and married her. According to her seniority, she was also the aunt of Luís I of Portugal. Louise Elizabeth's dowry amounts to 4 million livres. At the same time, his sister Mariana Victoria was engaged to King Louis XV of France of France.
Louis reigned for only seven months from the time when his father, King Felipe V, abdicated him (January 14, 1724) to his death in smallpox.
Father Felipe wrote a letter to Louis, describing his decision to abdicate and calling his son the 'Great King'. Louis humbly replied with a thank-you letter and claimed to be the "Prince of Asturias". But after he ascended the throne, his father kept an eye on him in Saint Il de Fangso. In order to resist the influence of his father, Louis ruled out old ministers who had played for his father around him.
Lewis' marriage issues dominated his reign. Louise Elizabeth, Queen of Louis, was unable to adapt to Spanish court life and often refused to speak to Louis, often engaging in inappropriate behavior. Louis wrote a letter to his father, "I have no other solution than to lock her up, her troubles have been increasing." Sure enough, he locked her up in a monastery. Louise wept bitterly and wrote a letter to Louis requesting forgiveness. Louis also felt sorry and released her. The two of them reconciled, and after Louis got smallpox, Louise took care of him regardless of the risk of infection.
After Louis' death, he was buried at the Royal Escorial Monastery in the Escorial complex. His father Wang reigned until his death in 1746.
