Arthur Pendragon, also known as King Arthur, is the legendary great king of ancient Britain. People's understanding of him comes more from Celtic mythology and medieval unofficial literature. Legend has it that he was the leader of the Knights of the Round Table, an almost mythical legendary figure known as the "Once and Future King". [1]
The legends of King Arthur that have been passed down, such as Sword in the Stone, The Grail, Merlin, Guinevere, Morgan Leffey, and so on, are mostly derived from "The History of the Kings of Britain" and Thomas Mallory's fantasy novel "The Death of King Arthur".
The Son of the King
Legend has it that Arthur Pandragon was the son of former King Uther of the Kingdom of Camelot and the wife of the Duke of Cornwall, Igraine. With the help of the magician Merlin, Uther transformed into the Duke of Cornwall and entered the castle where Igraine was located, spending a good night with her. Afterwards, she became pregnant with Arthur. After the death of the Duke of Cornwall, Igraine married King Uther and gave birth to this child.
Arthur was entrusted by King Uther to the magician Merlin to raise him from birth. Merlin secretly took Arthur, who was in his swaddling clothes, away from the castle of Tintagel and went to a secret place to raise him. King Arthur had a very good relationship with Merlin, and it was said that Merlin could change his appearance at will, whether young or old, but most of the time he was shown as an elderly man.
It is rumored that King Arthur has golden hair that shines like the sun, a voice that is more crisp and pleasant than a minstrel, and emerald like blue eyes. His appearance is clean and tidy, and his delicate appearance can easily enchant women. He adheres to the spirit of chivalry, is kind, upright, benevolent, loyal, and polite, but at the same time, he is good at independent thinking and formulating autonomous combat plans.
Draw a sword and claim the title of king
Later, King Uther passed away, and the domestic situation of King Camelot began to be turbulent. The bishop, following Merlin's advice, summoned all noble knights to choose a new king with a "sword within a stone" inserted into the stones of the church cemetery. This sword bears the inscription: "The one who draws this sword within a stone is the king. However, no one could pull the sword out of the rock. Since there was no better way, the knights unanimously decided to choose the king through a martial arts competition.
Arthur also went, but he did not have the qualifications to participate in the martial arts competition. Kai, the son of his foster family, represented the family in the war. However, Kai only realized after entering the meeting that he had forgotten to bring his sword, so he requested Arthur to go home and retrieve it. Arthur hurried home to find the gate locked tightly, and everyone went to see the martial arts competition. It's not difficult to imagine what happened afterwards. Arthur didn't have time to return to the martial arts competition venue to pick up the keys. In a hurry, he ran to the cemetery of the church and found that there was no one around him. He came to the stone and easily pulled out his sword from the stone and handed it to Kai, which surprised everyone. Everyone doubtfully inserted the sword back into the stone, but even after repeating it many times, no one except Arthur could pull it out.
Because no one knew that this boy was the child of King Uther, some knights were reluctant, but after Merlin appeared and told them Arthur's background, they finally had to believe that Arthur was the new king of Britain. Arthur, who had been living as a hermit since childhood, finally received his reward for his hard work.
In the early days of his reign, Arthur, the young king, showed a strong dependence on Merlin. Britain has ushered in unprecedented unity and strength. He helped the poor and the weak, establishing a prosperous kingdom.
The stone sword drawn by Arthur when he chose the king in his youth broke during a duel with King Pellinore due to a battle that violated the spirit of chivalry. King Arthur, who had lost his holy sword, was very regretful. So the great magician Merlin guided him to the holy lake, where the fairy held a sword and lifted it out of the water. The king rowed a boat and came to the lake. He received the sacred sword Excalibur, known as the "King's Sword", from the fairy of the lake. This sword was forged by the elves in Avalon, with a blade made of gold and a hilt studded with gemstones. Due to its sharp edge cutting iron like mud, the Lady of the Lake was named "Excalibur" (meaning "broken steel" in ancient Celtic).
Merlin once asked King Arthur, "Which one do you prefer, the blade and scabbard
King Arthur replied, "The sword body, because it is extremely sharp
Merlin said, "You should know that the value of the scabbard is ten times that of the sword body. The scabbard who wears the King's sword will never bleed, so protect the scabbard and carry it with you

Glorious Era
Since the first century AD, Britain has been under the oppression of the Roman Empire for a long time. Later, as a branch of the Germanic people, the Saxons/Saxons invaded on a large scale, burning, killing, and looting. King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table led the British people to rise up and resist, ultimately successfully repelling the Saxons/Saxons invasion from the north through twelve battles. In the Battle of Patton Mountain, the enemy was defeated in one fell swoop, driving all foreign invaders out of Britain. During this period, the Knights of the Round Table became an important part of the kingdom.
Legend has it that the maximum number of knights of King Arthur reached 150, and the knights charged on the battlefield, discussing domestic affairs at a round table. Although they may also form some factions due to political differences or disagreements, only in the round table are there no differences in status or between monarchs and ministers, and everyone is allowed to speak freely. There are many legendary stories happening at this legendary round table, including the search for the Holy Grail.
King Arthur married the beautiful and unparalleled Guineveria as his queen. But like his father King Arthur, King Arthur also had illegitimate children. His lover was his half sister Morgan. However, unlike his father King Arthur, King Arthur did not intend to have an affair. Morgan used a drug to make King Arthur see her as Guinevera. When King Arthur woke up, he felt guilty about Guinevera. Although King Arthur only spent one night with Morgan, Morgan still succeeded in obtaining the child with King Arthur's bloodline. Coincidentally, Guinevera had just witnessed all of this, which led to the later affair with Lancelot. The illegitimate son's biological mother was Morgan, and King Arthur and the child were both nephews and fathers. This illegitimate son was Modred, who later rebelled and led the kingdom to its downfall.
In the novel "The Death of King Arthur" written by British writer Mallory around the 15th century, King Arthur's territory continued to expand over time, and he even advanced into the interior of Europe and defeated the powerful Roman Emperor Lucius. King Arthur, depicted by Mallory, declared war on Lucius the Great and refused the request to pay tribute. He led his army to Europe, killed the giant at Mount Miguel, and defeated the imperial ruler in Rome. This was the most glorious period of King Arthur's legendary career.
Afterwards, King Arthur's interest shifted to finding the legendary treasure. His knights, either ordered or voluntarily, left the capital city of Camelo/Camelo one after another to search for the legendary Holy Grail, and these people had no return. In this way, the number of knights on the round table decreased, and the powerful empire began to decline.
Encounter betrayal
According to Mallory's "Death of King Arthur" at the end of the Middle Ages, Lancelot betrayed King Arthur and had an affair with Queen Guinevia. During his search for the Holy Grail, he ceased his passionate love, but when he returned to the court and reunited with Guinevera, the love turned into a raging fire. Although Guinevera had deliberately kept a distance from Lancelot, due to various reasons, mixed with trust in Lancelot and a desire for revenge against King Arthur, Guinevera finally launched an uncontrollable platonic romance with Lancelot. Although Guinevia later learned the truth and regretted it while in the monastery, her relationship with Lancelot still brought disaster to King Arthur as predicted.
Shortly after, the affair between King Arthur's excellent knight, Lancelot, and the beautiful queen Guinevera was discovered by King Arthur. Legend has it that Lancelot was raised by a fairy in the lake, hence he is also known as the "Knight on the Lake". King Arthur had great trust in Lancelot, so he became the bodyguard responsible for safeguarding the queen's safety and reputation. When he learned about Lancelot's affair with Guinevera, King Arthur felt very angry, but because Lancelot and Guinevera had always been in a platonic spiritual relationship, King Arthur could not punish them. However, King Arthur never showed any abnormality after this, even turning a blind eye to the affair between Lancelot and Guinevera, to the extent that Lancelot and Guinevera were unaware that King Arthur had learned of their relationship.
Although King Arthur could not deal with them and had no intention of punishing them, Lancelot's behavior had already caused dissatisfaction among many knights. Therefore, Gawain and Mordred secretly led 13 knights into the queen's palace and arrested the two who were currently in a tryst. Lancelot fought his way out of the siege and escaped, while Guinevera was brought before King Arthur. Although King Arthur wanted to forgive Guinevera, under the condemnation of the knights and under the king's authority, Guinevera had no choice but to be burned at the stake. However, Lancelot, who was deeply in love with the queen, and his comrades raided the execution ground and forcibly took Guinevia. The two of them crossed the sea and fled to France.
Although later mediated by the Pope and forced by the honor of knights, Lancelot returned Guinevera, Guinevera finally realized that her own existence had brought disaster to King Arthur and the country, and she became a nun. But the story doesn't end here. Another famous Knight of the Round Table, King Arthur's nephew Gawain, and his two younger brothers, Gareth and Garhoris, were mistakenly killed by Lancelot when they were trying to prevent Lancelot from robbing Guineveria. Therefore, they developed resentment towards Lancelot. Driven by revenge, Gawain encouraged King Arthur to personally conquer France and Lancelot. In the end, King Arthur decided to personally conquer France.
morte darthur
It was this conquest of Lancelot that gave Mordred a good opportunity to usurp the throne. King Arthur, who personally invaded France, left Mordred to manage the kingdom. Mordred realized that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so he spread rumors throughout the country that the king had died in battle and wanted to forcibly marry Guineveria. After hearing the news, King Arthur hurriedly returned to Britain. During the peace talks between the two sides, a snake quietly climbed onto a knight. The knight drew his sword and wanted to cut off the snake, thus confirming the outbreak of a bloody war.
Before the Battle of Camland, which led to the conquest of Mordred, King Arthur went to the convent where Guinevere was located and invited Guinevere, hoping that she would become his queen again after his return from the battle. Guinevere tearfully agreed, but in the end, this agreement was not fulfilled.
In the Battle of Kamland, both armies suffered a bloody battle and both sides were defeated. King Arthur ultimately killed Mordred with his spear, and he himself received Mordred's fatal blow. Most of the Knights of the Round Table were killed, with only one Knight Bedville left beside them.
King Arthur demanded that Bedeville throw the Excalibur sword into the lake. Bedeville knew that abandoning the King's sword meant that the king was about to pass away. He failed to make up his mind twice when he went to the lake and lied to King Arthur that the sword had been thrown into the lake. But they were all discovered by Arthur due to their failure to accurately describe the scene of the sword being taken back by the monster in the lake. The third time Bedeville finally set his heart to throw the King's Sword towards the center of the lake. At this moment, the woman's hand reached out from the lake to catch the handle of the sword, and then sank into the lake. After listening to Bedeville's report, Arthur passed away. His epitaph reads: "Hic jacet Arthur Rex quondam Rexque futus
In more literature on the legend of King Arthur, it is said that the dying King Arthur was carried to Avalon by several mysterious fairies in a boat, and it is said that he was ultimately buried there. The people believe that King Arthur did not die, and he will come back to save the world once again. Subsequently, Knight Bediwell also left the battlefield and retired to a very remote monastery, where he spent the rest of his life.
After hearing the news of King Arthur's departure, Guinia decided to repent, pray, and relieve the poor in a monastery for her entire life. Later, the infatuated Lancelot returned to Camelot to pursue Guinevera. However, the queen had become a nun and no matter how much Lancelot begged, she refused to see him. In despair, Lancelot eventually became a monk and the two never met again until their death. Everyone is a loser in this fight. After this battle, the legend of King Arthur came to an end.
