Amphitrite (English: Amphitrite/Greek: Αμφιτρίτη） Originally a sea nymph in Greek mythology, she later became the wife of the sea king Poseidon. In Roman mythology, it corresponds to Neptune's wife Sarasia. In Hesiod's "Theology", she is the daughter of Nereus and Doris; According to Apollodorus, she is the daughter of the god of the ocean, Ochoanus, and the goddess of the sea, Thesis. Eratosthenes wrote that Amphitrite was a daughter of the great god Atlas. However, Apollodoros still counted her among the Nereides (Sea Fairy).

Amphitrite had such great authority over the ocean and its creatures that she had never appeared as Poseidon's wife in worship ceremonies or artistic works, unless they were juxtaposed as equally important rulers of the sea.
The only difference between Amphitrite and other sea fairies lies in her queen's temperament. It is said that when Poseidon first saw her with other sea fairies on the island of Naxos, he was moved by her beauty and dance posture, and brought her back to the palace. Another theory is that she fled to the end of the sea to avoid Poseidon's pursuit, and Poseidon's dolphins found her there, earning her a reward and transforming into an immortal constellation.
Poseidon and she have a son named "Triton" and a daughter named "Lot" (some claim she is the daughter of Poseidon and Halia, or the daughter of Asopos). Apollodoros also mentioned their other daughter, named Benthesikyme.

In artistic works, Amphitrite is either depicted wearing a crown and sitting on the side of Poseidon, or riding with him in a chariot pulled by seahorses or other mythological creatures, surrounded by Triton and the sea nymphs. She was wearing a queen's robe with a hairnet on her head. Sometimes there are lobster pliers as attachments in the temple where she is worshipped. In poetry, people use her name to refer to the ocean.
Because Amphitrite became the queen of the ocean and the protector of marine animals, she possessed special abilities. She once transformed the beautiful narcissus Scylla into an ugly and terrifying sea monster. Because she married Poseidon, she was called "Poseidonia" and her worship spread throughout the islands of Tenos, Syros, and Lesbos.
